How Not to Do Drugs
It happened again this morning. On the way to work. oOoWe were noticing the great fall colors of the leaves turning in the the trees. "See how they turn first in the lower areas, then not until later in the trees further up the hills..." (I'm thinking about the varying sugar-levels in the leaves that make them change in different colors depending on the type of tree, etc.) She: Uh-huh, pretty. Uggghh. . ." oOo oOoMe (driving): "Look at that small truck up there. I bet it's one of those Wells Fargo trucks, or those bank data-delivery services. She: "Uggghh." "Did you know those armored trucks have little holes on the sides so they can poke out guns if they need to? Kind of like the old wagons in the Wild West. Crazy." "Huh --Ugghh?"oOo oOo See, my wife is getting out of the fog of a deep cold and sore throat. oOo I'm doing a little better than a week ago. oOoMe: "See the small back window and those side panels? It's an odd shape, sort of a pickup with a fabricated canopy built over it." She: "Uhhh . . uggghh" I want to get a look at the name on the side when he turns. OK, I was wrong , it's the power company. "It looks like it pops open on top and all sides, like a Transformer! All their tools and elctircal repair gadgets just pop out..." (of course throwing open my hands to illustrate). oOo oOo
She again: "Ugghhh.""What a nice peaceful fountain," as we turn into Mickey D's for a breakfast bite, "and some driftwood too." We exit the drive-through past the fountain and little "pond" - and I see pumpkins laid there in bunches. oOo oOo Then it happens. The Eye-Opener moment. oOo oOoShe speaks! "First it's 'Did you know those armored cars have little portholes for guns?' Then: 'Do pumpkins float??' Did you take some crack this morning?!" oOo oOoWe burst out laughing, over and over. Me in my hyena - somewhat still nasal - high-pitched falsetto; my wife with more of a rugged chortle. (You remember, she is recovering from the congestion). Too funny for words. Almost crying. oOo oOooOo oOo We make a funny pair. I jump from one thing to another, rapid motion, taking note and taking stock of the passing stimuli -- My wife is barely gaining steady morning ground as her mind wakes up to face the day. This is the best way How Not to Do Drugs. We don't need them! =8^pWe find and recognize the real pleasures in life. We can still have the goofiest, fun moments, even after [so many] married years together. oOo
oOo Getting "High on Life" they say - more like getting enjoyment from the small quirky moments of any given day, time, or season. oOo oOo And there are many good and bad "seasons" we go through. oOo oOoBeing free to laugh at our foibles and persevere, not seek escape through artificial means. Thank you Lord! [ end sermon ] oOo oOo For once I was able to write this down in time. I usually can't type fast enough or remember the fleeting moments well enough to write them down. Surely couldn't do it in a measley 140 characters. . . oOo oOoThis is why I really need Blurbser! - but more on that later.

Some Good out of Georgia
This is a follow up to my post about Good and Evil and the bad in the news. I heard (on the TV news) the other day of the response of family and friends to what is now a "recovery" effort for the missing girl in Georgia, lost (attacked, abducted) while hiking. Part of what *they specifically wanted to say* to the media was: in spite of the outcome, and in the midst of this kind of evil, they wanted to recognize the way that people around them - the community, the media too - have drawn together in love, showing respect and support. oOo And that when evil things like this happen, this outpouring of concern and help shows once again how there is still more Good than Evil in the world! oOo"It shows once again there is still more Good than Evil in the world!" Astounding! This I Believe. This is bedrock, and it shows me that although the "bad news" happens, and we should know about it, the reporting of it can initiate a good response. And I think this is what I was missing earlier. oOo oOoIt's like the antibodies flooding around a wound or infection. It's like the rallying of the troops to the breech in the wall. It's like the circling of close defenders and friends in a fight, closing ranks, increasing what's positive, responding as a team, launching a counter-offensive. The hurt, the crime, the evil, the hate, the pain, the true loss - this is the initiation, the catalyst if you will, for all the events, bad and good, that follow. oOoThis is where most news reporting starts and stops. We hear time and again how people with concern and love will reach out to help. News media considers this the "human interest", not the "main event". BUT IT'S NOT NEWS - we already know this about human nature! oOo oOoWhat is most often lacking is the ongoing Long Tail of the responses to the evil events. oOo As Paul Harvey used to say, "the Rest of the story." Where it leads, how it continues, where it ends... oOoThis is how God has designed life to be. This is THE STORY of countless books and movies throughout time: the reason we love heros, achievers and miraculous recoveries; Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, and dramas like the million "Law and Order" episodes... oOoWe are intended to be the responding agents of good to continue the fight against evil wherever it breaks out. Not to minimize the wrong and destruction, but to turn it around. oOoNot to ignore it, not by fooling myself into believing "it's all good" - the rose glasses and "speak no evil, hear no evil" syndrome... oOoWE NEED more news that gives us the backstory and the long-tail forward-story! oOo That shows us how the good in the world responds to -- and actually increases and far outmatches -- the evil itself. I think that news journalism as it has come to be now, cannot provide this. oOo "Do not overcome evil with (more) evil, but overcome evil with (overwhelming) Good!" oOoMobile post sent by zoooks using Utterz. GOOD Causes - Bloggers Unite!
This is a great site I discovered this week, while searching for GoOod Things. oOo If you have a blog, no matter how much or little time you put into it, try getting into this initiative! Their next Event is on 12-17-07: Acts of Kindness oOo oOo oOo DO an act of kindness — in your work, on the street, for your neighborhood and neighbors, wherever; and then post about it on your blogs, using words, pictures, and/or videos to tell the story. oOo oOo Add a badge to your blog to show your support for the Bloggers Unite movement. The bloggers unite challenge aims at putting a human face on bloggers who are responsible for so much good in the world. [ well, maybe, but not all that more than any other people. . . oOo ] The goal is to get active and be a motivator to non-bloggers that volunteering for a charity, donating to a cause, or simply doing something kind for another person has a ripple effect around the world. oOo : ) ZanyThing GOOD ?! oOo oOo oOo "Bloggers, Do something good offline" -- this fits right in with my philosophy of connecting the Web to RealLife. oOo Bloggers Unite is an initiative designed to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place. By challenging bloggers to blog about a particular social cause on a single day, a single voice can be joined with thousands of others to help make a real positive difference. oOo oOo
Check out what they're doing: December 17th 2007 - Acts of Kindness The Acts of Kindness theme aims at putting a human face on blogging as a force for Good. The goal is to be part of the largest group of bloggers to ever blog about an important cause, all on the same day. . . "Maybe 20,000 bloggers, vloggers, photographers will make a difference." oOo oOo September 27th 2007 - Bloggers Against Abuse Blog about putting an end to some sort of Abuse (you decide what kind of abuse to blog about)
July 18th 2007 - Organ Donor Awareness Campaign Organ donation because is a gift of life. In Australia, more than 1,700 people are waiting for organ transplants. In Latin America, more than 50,000. In Europe and the United States, more than 170,000. In China, more than 2 million. In Africa, there isn't enough organization to really know. Without an organ transplant, these people will die.

What's Good?
Well, here's something. . . I was eating a hot-cross bun the other day (OK I guess I had several) and I noticed that this little piece of "bread/rock", covered over the top with drizzled icing, also contained hidden surprises. oOo Held within its basically tasteless dough there were bits of various fruits and nuts (what some ancients called "sweetmeats".) oOo Ah Hah! That moment came to me, oOo as I chewed on a bit of citron and then, again, a bit of candied cherry -- there was more going on here in this simple Easter food than meets the tongue! oOo This was part of an ancient food tradition that incorporated symbolism into recipes, for fun, for learning and profound remembering. After all, what we take into ourselves often has a tendency to "stay with us" (especially lots of food!) oOo oOo Deep spiritual roots and truths have been preserved through food traditions, and early Christianity sought various ways to reinforce the faith through everyday, common means. So these sweet treasures found hidden oOo within crusty rolls, marked with the sign of the Cross, oOo made and eaten to celebrate Christ risen from the dead: oOo served to Remind me of the stone tomb, hard and sealed, which nonetheless contained the Body of the Best of men--who in Reality was to burst forth from the grave Alive again, fresh, full of promise and yielding abundant New Life. oOo oOo
Flowers, plants, trees, eggs, candy and yes fruit-- so many organic things give great references to the new life we can enjoy in Jesus' triumph over death. Fruits are a wonderful reminder of how life grows, can be beautiful to see, and bring "sweetness" and nourishment into our lives. And can a good tree bear bad fruit? We are known by our fruits, the fruit of lives pleasing to God. oOo "An apple a day." (with shades of the garden of Eden?) "Life is a bowl full of cherries." "When life gives you lemons --" oOo "Lemon tree, very pretty, and the fragrance Oh so sweet; but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat". . . as the old sappy song goes. But even sadness, grief, death, bitterness can be overcome because now Death is Dead and Jesus Lives! oOo And even lemon is transformed into tasty bits of buried treasure in the hot-cross buns. Bon appetit! To your health! oOo oOo Powered by Qumana Labels: bread, food, fruit, Good, Jesus, life, risen

Revenge of the "Nerdy" for spoof artist Yankovic - Yahoo! NewsOr, Why Is Weird Al So Popular Now?What's going on here? Could it be the widespread appeal of comedy, or that Yankovic's legacy and fame have expanded throughout his career? ( his first single, "Muh-muh-muh-My Bologna," was released in 1979). oOo oOo Catchy, huh? oOo"White and Nerdy"? "So Pitiful"? "Canadian Idiot"? Could it be that his titles describe the so-called musicians and music of our day? oOo oOo
Could it be that with the loss and current absence of real musical talent oOo among today's pop/rock/rap/sicko/punk/death/metal/butthead "bands" and "singers" (whoa, my bad-- pardon me for SCREAMING<<<< ) oOo oOo
the only enjoyable music is that which makes fun of the crap foisted upon the public by so-called producers and labels, (who themselves have sold-out to greed and peer pressure rather than promote real creativity and artistry). oOo oOo
Since no one in mainstream genres seems to have an original musical/ lyrical thought these days, we like hearing Wierd Al's ridiculous, yet more meaningful, renditions of the puke we must endure otherwise. oOo

LONDON (Reuters) - Filtering out useless information can help people increase their capacity to remember what is really important, researchers said on Wednesday. Great News! All the stupidity and total useless verbiage Trivia we are innundated by is a waste of Time and Attention! Who knew?! oOo oOo
"Until now, it's been assumed that people with high capacity visual working memory had greater storage, oOo oOo [ like Computers?! ] but actually it's about the bouncer -- a neural mechanism that controls what information gets into awareness." Just like the Bouncer at the Club -- if you're a total worthless slime, you don't deserve a place In Here. GIGO.Well, well-- this reminds me of a saying, and many people won't like it -- "too conservative", "too moralistic", "old-fashioned", "uptight", etc. oOo oOo
Here It Is:Guard your thoughts, for thoughts lead to words. Guard your words, for words lead to actions. Actions lead to habits; Habits to attitudes. . . Attitudes. . . choices. . . Choices. . .consequences. . . Consequences. . . Destiny. [author unknown]
"As a man thinketh, so he is." Steven Covey knows this in his newest "8th Habit."
Part of the SubversiveGood Web can be to reclaim these mind/behavior patterns, seek and speak the truth, gain trust, and respect the personal ownership and overload limits of the people we deal with. Look at this new initiative for the Value of your Attention.

"As You Think, so You Become..." Dept.
A close personal friend recently sent me an article that said the way to achieve inner peace is to finish things you've started. It is definitely working for me. I am now making a point of always finishing what I start, and I think I am well on my way toward finding inner peace. Because you are a special friend, I am passing this wisdom on to you. Here are the things that I have finished today: two bags of potato chips, a chocolate mousse cheesecake, a package of Oreo's, a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi, and a 2 pound brick of sharp cheddar cheese. I think this really works because I feel better already!!!------------------------------------------------------- I dreamed last night that death came and Heaven's gates swung wide With heavenly grace an angel ushered me inside Thre to my amazement stood folks I'd known on earth Some I'd judged to be unfit and some of little worth Indignant words rose to my lips But never were set free From the astonished look on all their faces Not a one expected me! <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< Labels: Good

Inject a Few Raisins!
OK folks, let's give this another try. oOo (below is my first quote to start it off) Quote-ster Meme"Inject a few Raisins of conversation into the tasteless Dough of Existence." -- O. HenryHere's the deal-- if you like discovering quotes by various and nefarious people, I'll start a thread and then you pass it on by adding a new quote (with author ref. if at all poss.) that interlocks with any word / phrase / or concept in the previous one. Highlight or underline the connective link somehow and pass it on. Of course let me know when you do, or leave your addition here in comments. If you want to bounce the "quote-string" back to me every so often, I'll add the quotes to my collection and keep it going. Multiple bounces are excellent between players!
